GPN training on Lung Cancer and COPD.
A learning event analysis carried out in Lancashire and South Cumbria into delayed presentation of lung cancers, found that ‘diagnostic overshadowing’, where symptoms of a potential lung cancer were assumed to be symptoms of the existing respiratory condition, was a factor in a number of later stage diagnosis.
This training was created for GPNs carrying out COPD annual reviews to increase knowledge and confidence in recognising red flag symptoms of lung cancer and ensuring effective use of the COPD Think Lung Cancer Checklist.
