This Supporting Neurodivergent Patients in Primary Care programme helps participants develop the knowledge, confidence and practical communication skills to provide more inclusive, compassionate and person-centred care for neurodivergent patients.

  • Develop a greater understanding of neurodiversity and the different ways people may experience the world
  • Recognise that every neurodivergent person is an individual with their own strengths, preferences and support needs
  • Explore the experiences and barriers that neurodivergent patients may encounter when accessing primary care services
  • Recognise how communication, language, environments and processes can influence a patient’s experience of care
  • Develop practical communication strategies that help neurodivergent patients feel heard, understood and respected
  • Understand how small adjustments can improve access, confidence and patient experience
  • Recognise sensory, cognitive and communication differences that may influence healthcare interactions
  • Develop confidence in adapting conversations to meet individual communication preferences
  • Explore approaches that reduce anxiety and create psychologically safer healthcare interactions
  • Understand the importance of curiosity, empathy and avoiding assumptions based on diagnoses or labels
  • Recognise the role of every member of the primary care team in creating inclusive services
  • Reflect on how inclusive communication supports equality, patient-centred care and positive healthcare experiences

By the end of the course, participants will feel more confident recognising, understanding and supporting neurodivergent patients through compassionate, inclusive everyday communication.

This is an interactive session and you will be expected to interact. Please ensure you have a camera and microphone available to attend the meeting.
