Spirometry & Feno Update

The ICB are really happy to announce that in partnership with the NHS England, Primary Care Training Hub and Respiratory Matters we will be launching training for primary care staff across Lancashire and South Cumbria to enable accurate performance and interpretation of Spirometry and Feno tests for adults and children and young people.  The training will be held via online modular learning, so that health professionals can learn at their pace.

Spiro & FeNo Local Register

Invitation to sign up to the local register for Primary Care staff performing Spirometry/FeNo in L&SC

The L&SC Primary Care Training Hub would like to invite all L&SC Primary Care colleagues who are delivering Spirometry and/or FeNO testing to complete the new local self-certification register in the following link: Annual Declaration L&SC Local Register

Please may we ask that this link is shared with all relevant colleagues for completion as soon as possible and by 30th September 2025 at the latest.

This local register is intended to act as a record of continuing competencies to deliver quality assured Spirometry and FeNO diagnostics across L&SC primary care and is aligned to the Spirometry and FeNO LES as well as recent and historic training undertaken by practices. Each individual who self-certifies will be included in the annual audit activity to provide quality assurance.

This local register provides a clear message that L&SC values the importance of demonstrating quality assured delivery of these diagnostic tests. Membership of the register will provide access to ongoing training and mentoring opportunities. The register is endorsed and supported by Peter Gregory, ICB Associate Director for Primary Care and Kathryn Prior, the L&SC ICB Respiratory Lead.

We would request that Practice Leads circulate this link to all colleagues in their practice or PCN who are involved in delivering Spirometry and/or FeNO diagnostics and encourage completion as soon as possible. The survey should only take 20 minutes to complete and should be completed individually by each colleague who is currently performing/and/or interpreting Spirometry and/or FeNO. The register is open to all colleagues, including those already on the ARTP register. The request to self-certify will be repeated annually for all colleagues through this process. The register will not be made publicly available and will be managed and maintained by the L&SC Primary Care Training Hub.

If anyone requires training for Spirometry and FeNo, please contact [email protected]
