A Chartered Manager is someone who can take responsibility for people, projects, operations and/or services to deliver long term organisational success, with the professional recognition of their ability to deliver impact, behave ethically and demonstrate their commitment to continual learning and development. Specific job roles may include: Manager; Senior Manager; Head of Department; Operations Manager; or anyone with significant management responsibilities. Professional managers are capable of managing complexity and delivering impact at a strategic and/or operational level with management and leadership responsibility for setting and delivering organisational objectives through a wide range of functions.

Most Suitable For
New recruits and current staff with clinical or non-clinical managerial responsibilities who wish to develop their knowledge, skills and behaviours in management.
Award
Level 6 Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship award, BSc (Hons) Health and Care Management, Chartered Management Institute (CMI) award in Management and Leadership, and optional NHS Leadership Academy Mary Seacole award. At the end of the programme successful apprentices will hold Chartered Manager Status with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).
Programme Cost
£22,000 for the full programme. £14,700 for the fast-track (year 2 entry) route.
There are no additional costs for the CMI and optional NHS Leadership Academy Mary Seacole awards.

- If apprentice is under the age of 25, Employer may not have to pay Class 1 Employer National Insurance. Full details and criteria are found here.
- For apprenticeships starting between 1 August 2024 - 31 July 2025, employer may be eligible for £1,000 if apprentice is aged 16 - 18 years old, OR aged 19 - 24 years old and has either an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan provided by their local authority and / or has been in the care of their local authority. Key Learning Requirements
Apprenticeships require learners to achieve specific new knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs), which are detailed in the Apprenticeship Standard. These are achieved by;
1) Programme Teaching; 4×0.5 days every three months of online teaching sessions, plus coaching sessions every 4 weeks, online lessons (flexible on-demand sessions) and online resources. The CMI and NHS Leadership Academy learning is fully embedded in to the apprenticeship delivery.
2) Independent study; such as assignment/project research and write up
3) Learning in the workplace; shadowing colleagues, completing programme assigned work based projects, day-to-day development within your current role duties/work activities, reflections with mentor, relevant training sessions.
Modules
This programme has fixed module delivery (you are unable to choose the modules studied). A list of modules is available on the course webpage or course materials.
Placements
This programme does not require external placements to be completed, although varied experiences are beneficial.
Assessments
Assessed throughout the programme by assignments, observations, evaluations and End Point Assessment.
Key Candidate Entry Requirements
• Employed minimum 30 hours a week in a suitable role for the duration of the apprenticeship. The apprenticeship duration may be extended to support staff who work less than this (will be looked at on individual basis).
• Preferably, evidence of study at GCE A-Level (minimum 2 subjects) or equivalent plus 3 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher; OR a completed recognised Access Programme or equivalent. Candidates that cannot evidence this will still be considered.
• Preferably, evidence of English and Maths at GCSE C/4 or above/Functional Skills Level 2/Equivalent. If the candidate does not have evidence of Maths and English at the relevant level, there are two options; 1. via NHSE funded online revision and exams. Contact Training Hub Apprenticeship Team for more details.
2. Or, Training Provider will support the learner through the relevant learning and exams, alongside their apprenticeship. An initial diagnostic assessment will be completed by the Training Provider at application stage to determine suitability for this option.
