Morecambe Bay

Morecambe Bay Primary Care Training Hub works with and on behalf of the 31 practices within the Morecambe Bay ICB footprint, which covers the Furness Peninsula, South Cumbria and North Lancashire. 

We work in close cooperation with the Lancashire and South Cumbria Training Hub team as well as the other locality teams in the region to deliver locally and regionally commissioned educational and development programmes. You can read more about them in the Education section of this website.

These sessions are fully funded for staff working in General Practice in Lancashire and South Cumbria. 

All bookings are subject to a 14-day cancellation policy. Please see the listing for details of the cancellation policy and cancellation fees.

Please note there is pre-reading to complete prior to each session which will take approximately 3 hours and post session there will be some e-learning to complete which will take between 6 and 10 hours. Please ensure you book time to complete this prior to the session. 

The pre-reading will be released approximately 12 days prior to the session. 

Hosting nursing students is a great way to promote Primary Care as a career and support the future workforce.

Students can:

  • Join at any point in their 3-year programme

  • Work on projects (e.g. clinics, health promotion)

  • Spend time with the whole team to get a full picture of Primary Care

  • Receive support from a qualified nurse (90-min virtual supervisor training provided)

Practice payment: £130 per full-time week.

We’re looking for practices to host Year 3 Paramedic students from the University of Cumbria during the week of 10 November 2025.

Placement details:

  • 1-week block (10–30 hours, based on your capacity)

  • Flexible hours – agreed between the practice and learner

  • Focus: Overview of Primary Care and multi-disciplinary working

  • Learners need a named support contact (not necessarily a paramedic)

  • Great opportunity to showcase the paramedic role in Primary Care

Tariff: £3.51/hour (approx. £130 per full-time week)

This 3-day multidisciplinary diabetes foundation course focuses on the core diabetes services and care provision for people with type 2 diabetes and prediabetes and emergency management for people with type 1 diabetes. It is aimed at Nurses & eligible AHP's working in primary care within our locality who want to work as a team to improve diabetes services and patient outcomes using structured care pathways.

It is aimed at Nurses & eligible AHP's, with previous experience in diabetes, working in primary care within our locality.

This advanced course focuses on supporting people with type 2 diabetes on more complex medication regimens, including GLP-1 and insulin initiation and ongoing support. Please ensure you have completed a diabetes foundation course and source a mentor to help support embed the skills and complete the competency assessment after the course.

4-hour PrePITstop diabetes foundation level update

This 4-hour programme has been developed to update healthcare professionals who deliver the essential primary care services for people with type 2 diabetes and non-diabetic hyperglycaemia. If you have previously attended a PrePITstop or equivalent foundation-level course, our programme will bring you up-to-date with essential care services, including the oral diabetes medication treatment pathway.
