SUMMARY:PAM (Patient Activation Measure) Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Patient activation describes the knowledge\, skills and\nconfidence a person has in managing their own health\nand care. \nWhat is Patient Activation? \nIt is widely acknowledged that people who have the\nknowledge\, skills and confidence to manage their own\nhealth tend to have better health outcomes than those\nwho may have a more passive approach.\nPatients/clients with high levels of activation usually\nunderstand their role in the care process and feel\ncapable of fulfilling that role. \nPeople who have low levels of activation however are\nusually less likely to play an active role in staying healthy.\nThey are less good at seeking help when they need it\,\nat following advice given by healthcare professionals or\nmanaging their health when they are no longer being\ntreated. \nIf we want clients/patients to take ownership of their\nhealth and care we have to make them part of the\nprocess.\n• We need to listen\, problem-solve\, and collaborate\n• We need to help them gain the skills and confidence\nthey need\, not just the transfer of information. \nVarious studies show that targeted interventions\ncan increase patient activation. \nLeast activated patients/clients can make the most gains\nwhen they are appropriately supported.\nTailoring interventions to individual needs\, significantly\nincreases the likelihood that people will adopt\nbehaviours that contribute to better health. \nThe Patient Activation Measure (PAM) is a validated\npatient-reported outcome measure owned by Insignia\nHealth.\nPAM was created to identify which patients/clients may\nneed additional resources to manage their health\nThe PAM tool is made up of 13 questions\, which\ndetermine the person’s ‘activation’ score on a level of\n1\, 2\, 3 or 4. PAM Levels 1 and 2 indicate lower patient\nactivation\, while PAM Levels 3 and 4 indicate higher\npatient activation. \nMeasuring activation can:\n– Improve outcomes and reduce costs\n– Reduce re-admissions and fewer episodes of unplanned and emergency care.\n– Improve patient experience\nThere are twenty places available per each virtual PAM\nworkshop. Please ensure you are able to join from\nindividual terminals and have a working camera and\nmicrophone.\nTo apply for a place please fill out the PAM Training Application Form in full and send to:\nworkforcetraining@activelancashire.org.uk\nOnce all delegates have been registered on a PAM\nWorkshop a confirmation e-mail will be sent to you inc\nyour Zoom Link.\nOnce the course has been completed PAM\noutputs/Flourish Info’s will then be sent to all\nparticipants who have completed the course in full.\nPlease note all applications are registered on a first\ncome\, first serve basis.\nThe PAM workshops are being delivered by Lancashire & \nSouth Cumbria ICB & Active Lancashire for the benefit of \nLancashire & South Cumbria population\, to assist people \nto become more active in their own health and care.

SUMMARY:FFP3 Mask Fit Testing in South Cumbria at Sedbergh Medical Centre
DESCRIPTION:With an outbreak of measles anticipated in the coming weeks\, it is essential that any clinical staff have access to the correct PPE. Measles is highly contagious and is transmitted via airborne transmission and therefore any clinician seeing suspected or confirmed measles needs to wear appropriate PPE\, including the FFP3 mask. It is an HSE legal requirement that FFP3 masks are correctly fit tested. This applies to all\, regardless of vaccination status as we have seen breakthrough infections with clinical staff in earlier outbreaks. Those who have had no MMR doses and those who are immunosuppressed are most vulnerable and should be prioritised for FFP3 fit testing or\, better\, deployed away from risk of communicable disease. Vulnerable groups include unvaccinated individuals\, pregnant women\, immunocompromised patients and the chronically ill. \nPrimary care staff must take their own FFP3 masks to the fit testing session\, and are encouraged to order FFP3 masks from the PPE portal (call 0800 876 6802 if you do not already have an account). They are free of charge to order. \nFacial hair – stubble and beards – make it impossible to get a good seal of the mask to the face. If you are clean-shaven when wearing FFP3 masks this will help prevent leakage of contaminated air around the edges of the mask and into your lungs. If there are good reasons for having a beard (eg for religious reasons)\, alternative forms of RPE\, that do not rely on a tight fit to the face\, are available (powered hoods) If powered hoods are purchased by practices it is important that decontamination process is in place. \nThese initial sessions will be available on a first come\, first served basis. Lancashire & South Cumbria ICB continues to work on providing further opportunities across the footprint to get staff fit tested. \nPlease contact SVOC (healthierlsc.svoc-info.c19vacc@nhs.net) if you require any further assistance.
