MECC provides an opportunity to discuss health and wellbeing lifestyle pathways which can support and enable behaviour change for key risk factors including smoking\, alcohol\, healthy weight\, physical activity and mental health and may link to local social prescribing offers. \n  \nWho is the course aimed at? \nThe course is aimed at anybody interested in learning more around the MECC approach and how this can be cascaded throughout your organisation or through the local community. SUMMARY:Lancashire and South Cumbria Local and National Nurse and AHP Quarterly Update Forums
DESCRIPTION:Lancashire and South Cumbria Practice Nurse and AHP national and local update forums \nWe have set up 4 new style forums for 2026-2027.  Each forum will be 2 hours long and these have been arranged on PLT afternoons so that some locality staff will be able to join\, however\, any GPN or AHP from other localities can join any of the sessions. Each session will focus on one topic\, delivered by an expert in that field.   The session will be of an educational nature and there will be an opportunity to ‘ask the expert’ at the end of the session. \nThe remaining forum for 2025-2026 will be still be 45 minutes as follows: \n10th March 2026 –  13:30-14:15 – presentation by Hannah Goldsmith\, Senior Infection Control Nurse who will give a general IPC update on various topics:\n\nPrimary Care IPC Champions\nA brief slide on ANTT\nGloves off campaign\nSkin decontamination\, just a summary/clarification slide\nWinter IPC reminders\nFlu season\nNew IPC section on primary care intranet\n\n\nThis will be followed by an explanation of the new format to the forums going forward \nThe new forum dates are: \n7th July 13:30-15:30​ – Cancer early diagnosis session hosted by Jason Feavers with an opportunity to ask the expert! \n\n7th October 13:30-15:30​ – This session is hosted by Jeannie Hayhurst who is clinical lead for cardio vascular disease prevention she is going to talk about tobacco\, physical exercise\, diet\, blood pressure and pulse and the effects on long term conditions in particular CVD. SUMMARY:Lancashire and South Cumbria Local and National Nurse and AHP Quarterly Update Forums
DESCRIPTION:Lancashire and South Cumbria Practice Nurse and AHP national and local update forums \nWe have set up 4 new style forums for 2026-2027.  Each forum will be 2 hours long and these have been arranged on PLT afternoons so that some locality staff will be able to join\, however\, any GPN or AHP from other localities can join any of the sessions. Each session will focus on one topic\, delivered by an expert in that field.   The session will be of an educational nature and there will be an opportunity to ‘ask the expert’ at the end of the session. \nThe remaining forum for 2025-2026 will be still be 45 minutes as follows: \n10th March 2026 –  13:30-14:15 – presentation by Hannah Goldsmith\, Senior Infection Control Nurse who will give a general IPC update on various topics:\n\nPrimary Care IPC Champions\nA brief slide on ANTT\nGloves off campaign\nSkin decontamination\, just a summary/clarification slide\nWinter IPC reminders\nFlu season\nNew IPC section on primary care intranet\n\n\nThis will be followed by an explanation of the new format to the forums going forward \nThe new forum dates are: \n7th July 13:30-15:30​ – Cancer early diagnosis session hosted by Jason Feavers with an opportunity to ask the expert! \n\n7th October 13:30-15:30​ – This session is hosted by Jeannie Hayhurst who is clinical lead for cardio vascular disease prevention she is going to talk about tobacco\, physical exercise\, diet\, blood pressure and pulse and the effects on long term conditions in particular CVD. DESCRIPTION:Clinical Skills Practice Workshop for Primary Care staff in Lancashire and South Cumbria – NEW SESSION 90 MINUTES \nAvailable throughout the year at different locations you will be able to experience a hands on approach with the support of a clinical educator! \nLocation: Room SF89\, Darwen Health Centre\, James St W\, Darwen BB3 1PY \nWe have added some extra skills onto our sessions to broaden the experience on attending! \nTopics covered in the sessions are:\n\n\nManual blood pressures plus looking at normal parameters and targets\nInjection Technique\nVenepuncture\nInhaler technique\nPeak flow technique\nBlood oxygen levels using a pulse oximeter.\n\n\nThe workshops welcome General Practice Nurses\, Health Care Assistants\, Nursing Associates\, Trainee Nursing Associates\, Advanced Nurse Practitioners\, Student Nurses\, Student Nurse Paramedics\, Physician Associates… anyone with a clinical role within Primary Care that is already trained in the topics above. \n\nNew to practice and want to have some hands-on experience with a mannequin to gain skills and confidence or if you are an experienced practitioner and want to refresh your skills then this is the workshop for you! \n\nWe have equipment available in the workshops to enable you to practice your skills and get hands-on experience with the support of a friendly clinical educator plus a practical handbook to guide you through. \n\n\nPlease note that these workshops are not a formal training session and the purpose is to support delegates in building on knowledge and skills already learnt from previous formal training.\n\n\nDelegates must join the session from the start time and leave once they feel they have gained enough from the workshop: there is no requirement to stay for the full 90 mins. In addition\, delegates may attend to access one of the pieces of equipment or all of them! This is a great opportunity to get hands-on and have a play with the mannequins to help improve your practice!\n\nYou will receive a certificate post-training for your attendance.
